2026 Advanced Materials & Plastics Industry Forecast

Over the past few years, growth in the Australian Advanced Materials & Plastics sector has soared. This year, the speed is about to pick up even further – and there are major opportunities for growth. Here’s where the industry is heading.

Prefabricated Homes

It’s no secret that Australia has a housing crisis on it’s hands, The traditional way of building can’t satisfy demand – which is why prefabricated homes are now in production.

Factories are churning out components for assembly, using machines like the MX5 to produce molds and complex parts.

Robots (think Sandrob) that sand, polish, and finish surfaces in record time.

This is a niche that is beginning to boom right now, and is well worth carving your way into.

Maritime Manufacturing

The AUKUS partnership has caused a stir within local industry, as have Ghost Sharks. Production facilities in the Hernderon Defence Precienct are hard at work developing more vessels – and they’re not the only ones.

Edencraft’s partnership with Ribcraft also unlocked more maritime-defence activity, with their CMS Poseidon still working to produce Edencraft’s signature vessels and contract projects via Edencraft Creative.

The challenges in this sector, like in many others, are finding the skilled labour to perform the work. Welders, fitters, and engineers who have fine-tuned shipbuilding skills are in short supply, and investments in trade education are proving to be the only real solutions.

The greatest growth projected for maritime manufacturing in Australia is in autonomous vessels; both as ships and undersea projects. Edencraft’s Ribcraft collaboration and the Ghost Shark are just the starting point – and it’s well worth exploring this niche in detail.

In terms of production, an emphasis on 3D printing and large-scale CNC machining is being spotlighted; especially with hybrids like the CMS Kreator .

Aerospace Manufacturing

Aerospace is another industry where opportunities for high-volume production are taking place. While drone production is currently underway, demand for faster prototyping and shorter production cycles are high, and often limited by the machinery in use. The AMRF’s Kreator is perfect for this purpose – and we can’t wait to see what happens when the aerospace sector starts leveraging it’s capabilities.

Automotive Manufacturing

The NVES (New Vehicle Efficiency Standard) compliance costs are sparking debate on flow-on effects for consumers; particularly what their effect will be on market prices. While much of the industry was fazed out almost a decade ago, the question now stands: should Australia specialise in niche automotive manufacturing, or produce our own EVs?

As it stands, niche component production like what Fit My Car are doing is a growing field, with Fit My Car’s CMS Eidos running at full capacity. As change ripples through the automotive industry, resulting from regulations, new opportunities are coming up. It’s well worth keeping your finger on the  pulse of automotive production; as well as the industries outlined above.

The Forecast

Domestic production in the Advanced Materials & Plastics sector is growing rpiadly, and those who have the equipment in place are well positioned to land big jobs.  With next-generation machines like the Kreator, Poseidon, and Ares possibilities open up.
